The Closure and Restoration

Since a landslide in September 2012, the Path of Love has been shut down. Four tourists from Australia suffered injuries. The trail’s cliffside location made repair work challenging. According to the Italian Tourism Ministry, over $24 million was spent on the restoration work. Specialized building methods were used. Helicopters moved the materials around. A stainless steel net and deep bolts were fitted by workers, some of whom were rock climbers, for cliff stability.

Reopening Phases

Beginning July 27 to August 8, 2024, locals from Cinque Terre and nearby regions can exclusively use the trail. Then, from August 9, 2024, tourists can come too. The official website is where you book your visit in advance, costing €10 (about $11). To maintain safety, only 400 people per hour are allowed, broken down into 100-person groups every quarter-hour. The trail starts at Riomaggiore and goes to Manarola, leading tourists one way.
